While diving with a buddy is the norm, there are reasons for experienced divers to develop the ability to dive without a buddy.

With proper training, equipment, and the right attitude to take the risks of diving without a buddy, an experienced diver can responsibly dive without a buddy. “Self-reliant” diving, i.e. diving without a buddy, is an activity that is not for everyone, but this type of diving also has its place. If you have the mental discipline and are ready to learn the techniques required to dive without a buddy, you can develop the skills and the necessary self-confidence - be it diving in a team or in a group, but on your own.
